Headache

Been working on the Flash the whole day.

Readded my copter enemies, then added a tank enemy.  It was a headache trying to debug the tank's aiming and shooting;  it involved localToGlobal and others, but got it fixed now.

Tomorrow, I'll improve the looks of the tank.  The code is getting so long it's giving me a headache just to stare at it.  WHY CAN'T I HAVE CODE COLLAPSE AT LEAST ;_;

Oh, and about the boomerang weapon "Crescent"...  finally decided on its movement.  It shoots out, travels a bit, then circles on the spot till it disappears, making it ideal for big and immobile enemies like tanks.  It was purely accidental;  the effect happened while I was messing around with the directional rotation conditionals and then I went "O_O" when I saw it.

Another pic included.  Looks hectic, doesn't it? XD

Copter game -- Weapons complete

Weapons are now complete, and fully upgradeable too!  The list of upgradeables:

1.  Turret
 - Your main weapon.  Weak, but shoots and reloads fast.
2.  Armor
 - Upgrading this boosts your HP and repairs all damage.
3.  Missile
 - Long-range missile that deals a good amount of damage.
4.  Blastgun
 - Shoots a scatter shot that is deadly at close range.
5.  Cannon
 - Fires an extremely powerful shot that penetrates up to three times.  Very slow.
6.  Crescent
 - Slings a metallic boomerang that arcs, constantly dealing chip damage to everything it hits. (pic)

The strategy here is to decide if you should spread out your upgrades, or concentrate on one weapon to get its secret special bonus.

Now, time to implement the new movement mechanics! :P   I might implement a shield system after I get enemies.

Merry Christmas

Lol, been a while since I last made a post.  Some things happened in the meantime.

1.  New game
Some sort of copter game. ;p   It was actually somewhat playable a week ago, but I rebooted it to accomodate many design changes I wanted.  Been working for a few hours, and the current looks is the one below.  Sure it doesn't look as graphically good as the one above it, but I focused on the coding first.

2.  Palit Forum closed.
http://forum.palit.biz
I died a little inside.  It was fun posting there and I learned loads, but somehow I've got the feeling that Palit "curtailed redundancies in the human resource area" due to the current global recession (and Taiwan isn't exactly resisting it fine last I heard).  I hope admin's alright, he was a really nice guy who loved playing Fallout 3.  It was a shame;  the forum was actually really growing now,  mainly fueled by me and WhyPlayGame's determined news posting. XD

3.  Start of new sem.
Subjects:
Math55 -- Bitch.  The first exam was mind blowing (in a bad way).
Math157 -- Another bitch subject.  I think I did better in the first exam than 55.  I think.
CS145 -- I LOVE the subject.  I love it so much I already finished the MP a month before deadline, WHICH I'VE NEVER DONE BEFORE.
CS192 -- Great, I'm the only one in our group who doesn't have a laptop. D:
Kom2 -- Dislike.  If I knew taking the subject meant doing a 25 page research paper, I would've just gone with 15 units this sem.  15 pages for Kas1 made me sick already.  Really wish I got a PanPil subject instead.  I'd rather have long readings.
LIS51 -- Free elective, and so that I could go inside the building where I would've shifted to a year ago. >_>   Nice subject, but awkward, because our prof Ma'am Iyra is very cheerful, but the class is totally devoid of *ANY* cheerful being.

Oh, and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I won a Palit 9600GT Sonic

Wow, way to really brighten up my dark day! :D

I can't wait for it to arrive, as well as my computer upgrade so I can finally play DMC4 on the PC, and maxed out too! :D Thanks, Palit, you guys rock!

Also, been a veeeery long time since my last blog. Been totally busy with school. In fact, I should be studying right now. I still need to do my EEE8 probset, which is due tomorrow (*GASP*!). There really isn't any notable updates to my Flash game right now; just tweaked and had slighty improved animations and slightly changed mechanics (notably the charging of the gun). I have a lot of good ideas that I want to do, but sadly, it's October, which means it's the end of the sem, which means... EXAMS! PROBLEMS! PROJECTS! CRAMMING! Ruh roh

On a side note: Nintendo just announced DSi after denouncing the rumors. It's basically a DS Lite, with two cameras (0.3MP for video convos and 3MP for regular pics). Slightly different dimensions, and they completely took out the GBA slot. Not a real loss for me. I need to save up for one.

New Gameplay Vid

Just uploaded a new recording. :) This is supposed to be Mission 1, but still haven't bothered scripting the events, so I summon enemies at will. :p

Can anyone recommend a better recorder?

New Logo

Credits go to Tr3ks_ter of TipidPC for his awesome work. He even had another version of the logo, but I ended up picking the one you see on the top right now. He also seems to have his own site, check it out. ;)

Just in case, this was the other version:

Busy with school, continuing Flash...

Well! For my first real blog post, I'm just gonna introduce myself. My internet alias is Wolf Akela, aka Shadow Edge if you're a regular in GameFAQs. I started this blog so I have a place to post updates about my Flash progress. True, I also post updates on my Newgrounds account (http://wolfakela.newgrounds.com), but it's limiting, since I can only have one image per news post. I kinda needed to have multiple images, lol.

So anyways, Wolfpak Studios is the name of my (imaginary) company, lol. I picked that name because of my attachment to wolves right now. >_> My older studio name, "Lions Den Productions", is just too long, so I needed a new one. Don't worry, I'm keeping the current one.

What am I up to? Continuing my work on Heaven Will Fall, a Flash game I made that was inspired by Devil May Cry. The project was started way back late in 2006 (December, particularly). I was still feeling so high about DMC3 that I decided to make a Flash game. I had the idea months ago though, but I still remember that my computer was broken for months (which, funnily, was fixed by rubbing a soft eraser on the pins of the memory sticks >______>).

I got some effort in it, but lost motivation since it just felt too much for me back then. Didn't have enough experience. Moved on to making other, simpler, Flashes (but never finished too). Restarted the project mid 2007, and so I just kept on swapping between projects when I lost interest in one of them. Works for me.

So anyways, in the game you play as 17 year old Amos, a half-human half-Seraph who is the son of the greatest Seraph ever known, Vermillion. He never knew about his special past, growing up in an orphanage and only having a picture of him as a baby together with his parents that he keeps in his pendant. One night however, demons struck him. Natural instinct of survival triggered his powers. He then follows a strange man, who seem to know a lot about him, and even why the demons attacked. That's where the story continues.

So anyways, the first mission of the game is you fighting off weak minions. The screenshot had Amos wielding guns and other weapons already, but I'll just adjust it during the final phase of the project, since you're only meant to wield a sword here. (Click on it to view it full!)

The game, as of now, features multiple weapons such as a frost sword, a gale katana and a flame scythe, plus a pistol and a shotgun. You can switch between them on the fly. Stringing these weapons together, you can form elaborate chains of combos, which are rated by the Style meter. Longer combos nets a higher style rating, which affects several aspects of the game. You get more red souls ("money"), your gun charges a lot faster, and your magic replenishes faster as well. The damage you deal also increases, although slightly. You can use red souls to purchase moves, items and abilities, or power up existing ones.

I'll have to post a video of this some time, but for now, the pic will do.
